| Traditionally in Thaiboxing the stance is high which forces you to lift the leg high. This allows the grappler to shoot in and take you down. Thai-Ju-Jitsu keeps the stance low; to avoid having to lift your leg as high whereby your foot returns to the floor more quickly to prepare for the sprawl defense against a grappler. It also makes it easier for you to shoot in on your opponent after a striking attack. | ![]() |
Western boxing was implemented to enhance the punching, parrying, bobbing and weaving skills, since Thaiboxing lacks in the area of punching skills. When bobbing and weaving, hands and elbows are held high in front of you to defend against the knees.
| The knee block is one of the strongest defenses in Thaiboxing, which is used against the low kick. The outside knee block is done by lifting your left leg to defend against a right kick. This can also be done with the right rear leg to defend against the left kick. With the crossblock the left knee defends against the left kick and the right rear leg crossblock defends against the right kick. Keep in mind that both hands are held high to protect the head and your elbow and thigh meet to create a shield. | ![]() |
In Thai-Ju-Jitsu what's high stays high, what's low stays low meaning that all punching attacks from standing will be to the upper extremities of the body and all kicks are intended for the legs. Leg kicks are always used after a punching combination, so that it becomes unpredictable as to when the kick will be executed. The Thai kick is used to prepare an entry for takedowns or causing hemorrhaging to the leg. Philosophy; if you can't walk, you can't fight.
Wrestling has proven itself to be the most proficient when it came to takedowns. It's for this reason that Thai-Ju-Jitsu adopted it and implemented it into its arsenal.
